Kempower's New Charger Bridges Cars and Heavy-Duty Trucks

A single charging dispenser that can fuel both a passenger sedan and a long-haul semi truck is no longer theoretical. Kempower has unveiled the Mega Satellite Flex, a high-power EV charger capable of delivering up to 560 kW through the established CCS standard or up to 1.2 MW through the emerging Megawatt Charging System, positioning it as the company's first unit to support either protocol from the same hardware. The timing reflects a genuine inflection point in commercial charging infrastructure. One Site, Two Standards

The practical appeal of the Mega Satellite Flex lies in flexibility rather than raw power alone. Operators building a new charging site have historically faced a decision: invest in CCS hardware for cars today, or build out separate MCS infrastructure anticipating truck traffic that may take years to materialize. Kempower's approach removes that trade-off. A single dispenser, rated for up to 1,500 amps on MCS and 700 amps on CCS, can serve whichever vehicle pulls up, whether that's a delivery van or a fully loaded tractor-trailer. The unit also accommodates newer 800-volt electric vehicles, an architecture increasingly common in higher-end passenger cars and some commercial vehicles because it allows faster charging without proportionally higher current.

Utilization as the Real Metric

Charging hardware is expensive to install and slow to pay for itself if it sits idle. That's the underlying logic behind combining standards in one machine: a site that can serve both cars and trucks captures more transactions per charger, which shortens the return-on-investment timeline that determines whether operators expand their networks further. The Mega Satellite Flex ships with cable lengths of 5 meters for CCS and 2.7 meters for MCS, practical details that affect how easily different vehicle types can maneuver into a charging bay, and it can be fitted with a payment terminal for public-facing sites.

Fitting Into Existing Networks

Kempower designed the new charger to work alongside its existing distributed charging systems, meaning operators who have already deployed Kempower infrastructure won't need to rebuild their sites to add megawatt capability. That compatibility matters in an industry where capital costs and construction timelines already slow expansion. The Mega Satellite Flex is expected to reach North America and Europe in July 2026, giving fleet operators and charging network developers a defined window to plan sites that serve both today's passenger EVs and the heavier electric trucks now entering commercial service.
